Show off your tresses naturally!

Hey Cranks,

Being a blogger is a great responsibility, not only should you try unique products and give your honest reviews on it, but also remember the motive for you to begin blogging. I started this space to ink all the words that keep running in my head. A year after I still kept writing in this blog, I had a “eureka” moment discovering that most products that we use, thinking they would help our skin/hair, do more harm to us than good. Since then, I have made innumerable google searches to confirm what I had just learnt. And so, began the journey of two stories – one to discover natural products, and two, to help others discover the same.

Today’s post is on how to maintain your hair with natural products, and still show them off. Yes, you may not have that salon like finish or the kind of hair models show off in the commercials, but if you want to load less chemicals into your system, and maintain good hair, these products would work.

Herb Island is an Australian brand, that aims to provide superfoods to the hair and skin. Their products are cruelty free and chemical free(no sulphates and parabens) I have tried their hair range for quite some time now and this blog would feature my honest review on them.

A healthy hair regime consists of four stages:

  • Oiling

I have used the Ayurvedic Night Therapy hair oil from their range for this step. This bottle of oil looks so good, as you can actually see herbs in it. I would oil it into my scalp majorly, massage it and then leave it for some time. Occasionally I would also leave the oil in my hair overnight.

IMG_20170823_205050

Cost : Rs 349/100ml

  • Shampooing

Next day in the morning, the first job is to wash the oily hair. I used the Exotic Flowers shampoo, which comes in a cute pink colored packaging. It is very gentle on the scalp, which is the first thing I would want in a shampoo. It cleanses the oil really well, though I required to do a double time wash. It has a mild fragrance, and the consistency of the shampoo is pretty good. I use this primarily for the scalp, and not too much for the lengths of my hair.

Cost : Rs 250/200ml

IMG_20170823_204829

  • Conditioning

Next step is to drain the excess water from the lengths of the hair, and to dab the conditioner on to it. I used the Exotic Flowers Conditioner for this step. I required a large amount of the product for this, though my hair is not extremely long. I washed it after letting it stay for a good 2-3 minutes. Like the shampoo, it imparted a mild fragrance in my hair. It did help in making the hair a little soft, but did not make it completely frizz free.

Cost : Rs 150/100ml

IMG_20170823_204957

  • Nourishment

After towel drying my hair, and letting it to air dry, I would apply the serum to the lengths of my hair. I used the Moroccan Argan Oil Serum for this, which is my favorite in their hair range. This would make it easier for me to remove my tangles, and lets not forget the benefits of Argan oil for our hair. I did not see a visible shine in my hair, but it does keep the hair look healthy.

Cost : Rs 399/100ml

Wake up trouble?

Hey,

The festive season is in the air, with the new year around the corner. It’s becoming chill day by day, so much that I’ve started ignoring my alarm clock every morning. After a million snoozes, what really inspires me to get up is the thought about my morning ‘filter’ coffee. A sleep walk to the kitchen (sane enough to make a good coffee 😛 ) and the aroma of the coffee, half wakes me up, and the first sip makes me thank my existence. Such is the importance of coffee in my life.

b612_20161204_102950

I totally heart coffee ❤

Recently I shifted to a new city (away from family) and so I could not get access to the usually coffee powder that my family used. That was exactly when I found the brand called BeanStalknLeaves which was created by people who shared  a similar love story with coffee. I’ve tried three of their variants and this is my honest feedback about it.

b612_20161030_094043_1477816153767

Enjoying a cup of coffee! 🙂

  • Velvet Dew is a not so strong variant of coffee, which is perfect a quick sip when you need a drink after dinner, before leaving for a quick task, the perfect coffee to offer guests, when you aren’t very sure of how strong they like their coffee. It definitely can’t go wrong there.
    My rating : 4/5
    Price : Rs 355 for 250g
  • Shot Gun is a very strong coffee variant (I ❤ this one) which helps my brain wake up in the morning and do my work right. This often goes on my afternoon to-do lists, so that the rest of the tasks on that list get done too! 😛 (win-win situation)
    My rating : 4.5/5
    Price : Rs 335 for 250g
  • Smooth Operator is the mildest variant of the three. Perfect for lazy days, where you don’t have too much to do, and want to chill.
    My rating : 3.5/5
    Price : Rs 295 for 250g

    b612_20161204_112957

    Beautifully packed, travel friendly.

I’m waiting for more variants from this brand. Visit their official site for more on each of the variants or head to amazon to shop them. You could also gift these to a coffee lover, this festive season and pass on a few smiles. Happy spreading joy 😀 Let me know how you guys start your day. Mine is incomplete without coffee! 🙂

Till the next shot of coffee

Egg for the hair?

Hey guys,

Hope the winters have been treating you guys well. The festive season is around the corner, which motivates us for new better beginnings 😀 We have all heard about the benefits of egg for the hair’s nutrition. Well, I have been eager to make a hair mask with egg for quite some time now, but couldn’t because I’m a vegetarian and taking home eggs is a BIG no-no. Browsing for alternatives, I landed up on a brand called eyova. They are a brand who came up with a solution for hair woes – Egg oil.

I’ve been trying this for almost 2 months now, and would like to share my feedback.

b612_20161207_095841

Claims made by the brand :

• Prevents premature hair loss
• Prevents premature hair greying
• Repairs hair damage
• Reduces dandruff and improves scalp condition
• Improves hair’s shine and luster

I’ve been using the oil, to massage my scalp and also applied a little on my entire hair length. I oiled my hair the previous night, like I use any other hair oil. It gets absorbed into the scalp very very quickly.

b612_20161207_095858

Any oil needs quite some time for it’s effects. The immediate effects that I saw, was that my hair got super soft.

b612_20161207_095922

Now, to the pros and cons.

Pros :

  • Much easier and less-clumsy way of using egg for hair.
  • Makes hair soft.
  • Gets absorbed into the scalp very quickly.
  • Manages frizz/dryness
  • Contains natural ingredients
  • Available online.

Cons :

  • Pricey (Rs 590 for 50 ml)
  • Fragrance is not so good.
  • Requires quite some shampooing for removal (if a mild shampoo is used)

Overall, I would rate it a good 4/5. Check it’s features and buy it online at their official site or on flipkart. You may find some offers now, so go ahead and splurge in this product.

Qtrove haul.

Time has proved a lot of stereotypes wrong :

1. Can you shop online?
2. People delivering products home – will it be safe?
3. What if you don’t like the products?

But one thing time can’t erase – the beauty of handmade products. Handmade products have their own value and charm. Don’t we all have a neighbour/friend who is exceptionally good at making handmade stuff, that is cute, and wants to sell it, but is not able to find a proper way to do so. Qtrove is a one-stop destination for all these handmade sellers. This in turn means you have a wide choice between organic and natural products, that are chemical free. (food for the skin and food for the body! :P)

They have a wide range of products from food, beauty products, home decor, accessories and a lot more. I recently had a shopping haul at Qtrove and I wanted to pen my experience.

b612_20161119_101754

Face toner.

3. Ardhana peppermint lip balm – This is a chemical free lip balm, that is extremely moisturizing. Only drawback being it has a glass container which is not very travel friendly. (4.5/5) You can get this product here.

b612_20161124_160317

Lip balm.

4. Eucalyptus essential oil (Aroma World) – Well, we all know the benefits of this one. From being a key product of aroma therapy to reliving body pain, this is a miracle oil. (4/5) You can get this product here.

Korean skincare?

Hey,

So how often, while looking at Korean people have you wondered how flawless their skin is? What do they use to get that kind of skin? In my quest to find the answers to this, I fortunately stumbled upon skin18. And it was my one stop destination.

I recently got a face mask from their site, and here is my honest review about it.

b612_20161119_125031

The sheet mask 😀

I was really really excited to try it out as soon as I received it, but waited for a good occasion to do so. As instructed, I washed my face with a gentle cleanser, and used a toner, after which I applied the sheet mask on my face. It was convenient to use. After a good 30 minutes, I removed the sheet and washed my face.I also massaged my face, to complete the good pampering session. I could feel a real cooling sensation after using the mask.

Pros :

  • Easy to use
  • Clear instructions given
  • Gave a good cooling sensation
  • A good skin pampering session at home
  • Mask covers even face shape ( and is quite big)
  • Smell is mild
  • Very pocket friendly ( they also have a lot of crazy discounts, so very comfortable)

Cons : Nothing I can think of! 🙂

Verdict : A good 4/5. Will definitely purchase it again! Would love to try other variants as well.

Let me know, what you think of the post! 😀 Here is a direct link to this face sheet mask.

Plan your work, work your plan..

Hey,

Technology keeps advancing by the day. From the alarms that wake us everyday, to the expense tracker in our mobile and the online tools for cab booking that are just a click away, technology has been ruling us. But there are still some people like me, who just love the smell of paper. Planning has undergone a tremendous tech-change, and yet I use a planner (and a dozen pens to decorate them) for my everyday goals and to-do.

I’ve always been very choosy when it comes to stationary. And most of the planners never convinced me completely, until I came across this planner by Nirmala Franklin, that I simply could not resist.

B612_20160813_152544.jpg

Love at first sight ❤

With features like a cool laminated cover, month at a glance, everyday notes to self, plans for the week, cute stickers to supplement some days, reminders, expense calculator and contacts section, this planner is just beyond expressions. It’s metal coil binding keeps your memories safe for long. There is also a zipper pouch and a pocket to store important bills, receipts and letters close to heart.

Attaching a few pictures of the planner, to make it easier for you guys to grab this one.

What’s that smell?

Hey guys,

It’s summer in most parts of India, and we all face a common problem – to smell good. Now, who doesn’t like to portray themselves as the guy/girl with a good fragrance? Everybody loves that attention. Spending thirty seconds of your morning time on spraying a perfume, for work, is one thing. But, summer calls for a handy pocket perfume, for the ‘just in case’ moments. And that’s were Neesh Perfumes came into play.

I was browsing for some good ‘pocket-friendly’ pocket perfumes (I haven’t started earning yet 😛 ) and I found this Indian attar (perfume) brand which claims to use natural and fresh ingredients. I found it’s fragrance range very unique and got to try two of the fragrances :

  1. Attar-E-Ishq : This one is my current travel-friendly favorite. It has a mild fragrance of vanilla with a little of nutmeg, bakhoor and cedarwood. The mild fragrance is what drew me towards it and if you are looking for some strong ones, you can try the other one.
  2. Moha-Beau-T : This one has a strong scent, but I love the way French rose and saffron have been mixed to give this a perfect Indo-Western touch.
    B612_20160706_144616.jpg

The brand claims that these last for 12 hours, I can definitely assure a 10 hour “awesome you”. Not to forget the cute packaging, which can fit in your slings, or even your pockets. Coming to the cost, it costs 340 bucks for a 20 ml pack, which comes to less than 1 rupee per spray. (Each pack contains nearly 400 sprays 😉 )

You can know more about the other variants and purchase your favorites in the official website. These products are also available in the leading online websites like Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal and ebay.

So Keep Calm and Smell Well.

Chemicals on your skin?

Fourteen years of schooling and four years of engineering have still not helped me to figure out what I wanna do with my life. So yes, the abstract happy news being I’m done with my studies, which also meant I had literally nothing to do. Comprehending my joblessness, I began searching and researching a lot on the internet (including facebook and instagram refreshes every 5 min). One of the two really productive things that this vacation saw me doing was to make a lot of DIY’s. I made a notebook, a planner, a few bookmarks, a jewelry kit and a few cute multi-purpose boxes ( all with a coffee by my side). I also tried my hand in a bit of doodling and sketching ( Umm, not great).

Of all the internet browsing, I also started discovering the ingredients in some of the cosmetic products I owned and in some more that I was planning to buy. Now, I liked to keep my beauty routine simple ( face wash – sunscreen – and.. end of list), and I made sure I used brands which ‘sounded herbal’. Now, the internet had proved me completely wrong. There were parabens, alcohols, carcenogens and a lot more chemicals, which by now would have embedded on my skin. That’s when I swore to use safer products and began researching on brands which were less familiar to the general world yet produced products from ingredients our ancestors used. These may seem slow to work, but your skin would definitely love it.

One of the safe brands in India, is Aroma Essentials which offers natural skin and hair care solutions of which I’ve began using a few products today. You guys can check this brand at AromaEss (facebook page) or AromaEssInsta (Insta page) and check out their amazing list of products. I’ll blog the review of the products in the next post, after using them for a few weeks. Till then,

The Internship (My Version)

I got out of the AC coach with my trolley baggage. I saw people rushing out the train, some waiting for their beloved to receive them, the vendors yelling out the names of the edibles that they were selling, small babies crying and porters struggling their way through the crowd. Amongst all the chaos, a yellow board stood with “BENGALURU” written in bold letters. The pleasant weather gave me the assurance that I could survive here, in peace and beat the Chennai-heat. Yay, I had finally arrived at the Bengaluru Railway station, from Chennai for my two month internship. Engineering is considered one of the most prestigious courses to be taken up by students in India. To flaunt your degree without an internship experience makes it incomplete, for, the very exposure into the professional world when you are still a student is amazing. Getting an on-campus internship offer was ‘a dream come true’ for me, and it took me a few days to sink into the feel that I had got an internship in an extremely reputed organisation. I immediately caught a cab and told to driver the name of the five-star hotel where the interns were given accommodation for a week. Well, being away from parents, was fun, and spending it in a five-star? I was at the horizon of my excitement. The stay helped me self-realize that I could be independent and that I was not a pampered spoilt-brat, for I knew how to handle money-matters. The orientation program on the first day, introduced me to a lot of amazing people whom I held as role-models for the rest of my time there. The organisation had people from different walks of life, and a lot of interesting talks with employees and other interns, happened over the coffee. Being a student is a synonym for being care-free. The two month internship period, helped me gain skills for the brain and confidence for the heart. I had a half an hour cab travel everyday which helped me note interesting places to visit over the weekend with my friends and cousins. My weekdays began at around 8, when I would finally decide to leave my bed. Within an hour, I would be all dressed up and ready for the cab, which would pick me up at 9:30 am. The cab drivers were friendly and took us on time in spite of the traffic hub that Banglore was. Work began by 10:30 when I would arrive at my desk all perked up for a great day ahead with coffee in my favorite mug. The work environment was very pleasant, making it a fun place to accept challenges and work efficiently towards them. My mentor was extremely patient in explaining the project details to me and didn’t mind me asking him the silliest of questions. He would let go of the small mistakes that I would commit, for he wanted me to concentrate on the ‘Big Picture’ rather than the mistakes that were part of the learning experience. The satisfaction when I completed a task successfully was ineffable. I was also introduced to professional communication skills and leadership skills. Being a part of a team that worked very closely I learnt to be a efficient team-player. One of the best moments at the end of the first month was to get the message that my ‘salary’ was credited in my account. I spent that weekend in pride, purchasing a saree for my mom, a shirt for my dad and sneakers for my sister. The next month was as great as the first and I was now getting better at it. The weekly status updates, conference calls and video calls gave me the real insight into how well I was performing. I also had one-to-one catch up’s with my mentor where he would give me suggestions on the project work and feedback on my performance. This helped me become better with every passing week and it eventually helped me ace the final project presentation which I had to deliver. Team catch up’s over lunch or team dinner sessions were very effective in bridging the gap between the employees and the interns. In the 8 weeks, almost never did I feel inferior, in front of employees with many years of experience. The firm encouraged all of us to be ‘ourselves’ throughout. The work culture was very diverse, making it possible for us to interact with people from all walks of life. We also had a day allotted for community service which gave us the satisfaction of being a part of the community which helped the others who yearned for it. We were a team of around 30 and we went to a school where we could interact with the kids and help them plant vegetables. The kids showed over-whelming enthusiasm and proved it once again to us, that it was our love and time that they asked for. We spent the day singing and dancing with the students and had lunch with them at their school garden.  The team bid adieu to the interns with a mouth-watering black forest cake and inspiring words. My last weekend there was spent roaming around the different places, doing street shopping, which the girl in me loved.  I bid goodbye to Bengaluru sitting in my seat 10,000 km above the ground level, looking at the Bird’s eye of the city, a part of it covered by the flight’s wing. After all this, getting an offer in the firm was a double treat for me. Concluding in one line, my internship has made me a “Jack of all trades”, which is what today’s competent world expects from the youth.

Today.

It was a dark tunnel. I was searching my way out. My eyes were the evidence of the fear in me. I heard a sound. Someone calling my name out. More fear. I could sense someone hitting me. Gently at first, and then fiercely. The voice, now seemed to sound more clear. WAKE UPPPPP !`

It was my mom trying to wake me up from my thriller dream. And so, there began a brand new day. As usual, I ran to get ready. In just a few minutes, I was all dressed up, stuffed something into my mouth, and called my dad to drop me at the railway station. “Daddy, I’m going to get late again, Drive faster”

“You couldn’t get up early. Don’t do the talking then.” he would say and shut my mouth.

When I reached the stairs of the station, I helplessly saw my train leave the platform. I could feel the Gods laughing at my missing the train again, like always. I will be early tomorrow, I chanted to myself.

A poor lady was begging for money. Though both of us didn’t know each other personally, we would both have eye contact for a minute everyday. And, I always felt, it was her curse that I wasn’t catching my train everyday. Damn. I was never encouraged to give money to the beggars, for the very fact that they could make a bad use of the money. My family encouraged giving beggars food or buying them a drink. But seriously who would do that in the midst of a busy morning, catching a train and attending classes.

While all that happened was a routine happening, something different happened today. I was walking the stairs, and I had a minute of eye contact with the lady again.

“Amma, I haven’t had food. Pleaseeee” she cried.

While, I was ignoring her voice, I watched a middle aged man walk to her. He half-sat beside her, opened his lunch box and gently placed all the contents from his box to her plate.

“Eat, it’ll taste good” he said.

That one act, touched my heart. I felt like that guy had slapped me on the face. The million dollar smile on the lady’s face was overpowered by her happy tears. She blessed him whole-heartedly.

I kept staring at her. She took a piece of chapathi from her plate and placing it in her mouth, caught me staring. I gave her a guilty-smile. While I was caught in the moment, I saw another train racing towards the platform. And so, the moment faded and I ran my marathon to catch this train, and at the least attend the second hour, as I was already late for my first hour class.

Signed,

-Me.
